What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a design sprint-like event where you create a product that addresses a problem facing your community or the world. The project you create can be in any form: a computer game, a mobile app, a simple website, or any medium you’d like to use to express your idea. It’s very open-ended, with a general focus on solving a problem or addressing a need. Check out our winner's page to get an idea of what past projects have been like.
How do I submit my project?
I don't have any experience?
The beauty of our event is that you need zero programming experience to participate. This is why several of our prizes do not even require for you to submit any code. We will connect students with industry experts over Discord to help solve and debug any issues you may be facing as you work on your project.
How will we communicate with each other?
All communication for the event will be hosted through Discord where students will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students. All talks will be hosted live over Zoom Video Call where students will have the opportunity to hear and ask questions to speakers. We will send updates over email as well so if you live in a country where either of these is blocked, you can still participate!
Projects will be submitted via a short 2-3 minute video along with a few questions to fill out at the end of the week which will then be judged by a panel of top venture capitalists and entrepreneurs.
How big can team size be?
There is no restriction on team size, but between 1-5 people is typical!
How much does it cost?
A total sum of exactly zero. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, this event is free for everyone!
How will prizes be given?
In-cash prizes (including our first, second, third, best remote learning project, best design project) will be transferred via PayPal or Venmo (or whatever payment app is most convenient for you. Our sponsor prizes will be shipped to your most convenient home address.
